Adding a new Sametime community

On Sametime: Go into File/Manage Communities
On Notes 8: Go to Tools/Sametime/Manage Server Communities

Select Add new community:

  1. On the Login tab, enter your stdemo4 user name and password. Remember, your user name is the name you registered with on this server.
  2. On the Server tab enter the host server name stdemo4.dfw.ibm.com. IF (and only if) you receive a message during login that says that the server isn't available, come here and change port 1533 to port 80 and try again. Otherwise, leave this alone
  3. Press Apply

Now you have added a new community to your Sametime client. And if you wish, use this link to show a custom icon for contacts in that community.

How to add external people onto your Sametime client

The next step is to add your friends or business partners on the public IM networks. To add a new contact, press this icon and say 'New contact':

  1. Select the server community: stdemo4.dfw.ibm.com
  2. Check the box Add external user by E-mail address
  3. Enter the mail address and select the appropriate provider
  4. Then press 'Add'

How external people add YOU to their contact lists

All ids on stdemo4.dfw.ibm.com have email addresses assigned in this format:
login_name@dfw.ibm.com (using underscores instead of spaces in the name.
So, if your login name is "Janet Doe", your email address will be Janet_Doe@dfw.ibm.com

Note that this is for IM identification purposes ONLY. This server does not handle email.
